On June 5th the Ambassador Paulo Vizeu Pinheiro met with the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill I and the deputy head of the department of foreign affairs of the Russian Church Filaret Archimandrite. The meeting took place at the synodal patriarchal residence at the Danilov Monastery in Moscow.
The parties exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of the spiritual tradition. The Patriarch Kirill mentioned the tens of thousands of Orthodox from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova who now live in Portugal and praised the fact that Portugal hosted 14 parishes where Orthodox can receive spiritual support. The parties agreed that the Christian communities of Portugal and Russia can play an important role in strengthening the spiritual and cultural relations between the two countries.
